She’s baaaaaack (again) … and 26 years old!

by Mindy on July 20, 2011

Cough cough cough. Ahem.

Whew. Those cobwebs were tough to sift through, finding my way back here!

Despite grandiose hopes of ending the semester and returning to my blog with thousands of words pouring from my fingertips each week, “Behind the Byline” sadly remained quiet — no commentary about news stories despite the Casey Anthony drama; no fodder about the work chaos shifting the lifestyle I had grown accustomed to; no simple “Tuneage Tuesday” to break up the monotony of whiteness taking over my blog; and certainly no divulging of details about my life to keep readers informed.

My busy days ceased when the school days did in early May, but laziness took over. And then complacency festered when I realized how much time had passed since I last posted.

Today, as I sat here perusing the Internet, I realized that my tiny corner of the blogosphere has been quiet a bit too long. Realizing that my birthday came and passed without mention on my blog — without the traditional posting that I grew to love — I decided it was time to return in an overly melodramatic fashion and break the silence, and what better way to do so then by marking this age 26 milestone with what has truly become a bloggy-custom around these parts each year since my 23rd birthday (clickity click here to check out age 25, which has links to the others).

In 26 years I’ve…

Completed one year of grad school at UNC-Charlotte.
Attended two weddings in one day.
Never had an adult summer filled with three-day weekends, ’til this one.
Lived in the great state of North Carolina for more than four years.
Been tattooed five times (this changes each year).
Worked six days every week for three and a half years … until recently.
Watched my little sister turn into a beautiful seven year old!!
Lived with eight people who were not family.
Seen only one nun take off her habit my whole life, when I was nine.
Worked at the not-so-new-anymore public relations job for nearly ten months.
Made far too many wishes at eleven-eleven on the clock.
Been caught up on twelve for too long and want to post this damn thing.
Wanted to be a “writer” since the age of thirteen.
Had a boyfriend, fairly nonstop, since I was age fourteen.
Always called fifteen my favorite number.
Lived in an adorable Davidson apartment with her boyfriend for sixteen months.
Had to paper-towel my car windshield after every rain when I was seventeen.
Had my first vacation sans the parentals when I was eighteen.
Secretly wished I could return to age nineteen and change a few things.
Had a crazy roommate incorrectly think I was bulimic when I was twenty years old.
Lost about $200 in 30 minutes at a casino trying to hit twenty-one.
Briefly had two kittens, Lola and Luna, when I was twenty-two years old.
Never thought I’d envy my twenty-three-year-old friends.
Been Aunt Mindy to the most amazing little boy since the age of twenty-four.
Through the age of twenty-five, had at least one great-grandparent in my life.

On July 15, I officially turned twenty-six.

And so, I have finally, somewhat triumphantly — in my humble opinion — returned to my blog! And I will keep up with it. I’ve missed it so and complacently keeping my distance is not something I wish to do any longer. From fodder to commentary, tunes to tidbits, I’m back. I know, I know … you’re excited. Ha, me too! And really, it’s about damn time I stopped leaving my piece of the Internets so quiet. This loud girl needs to make some noise!
