As this blog has been fairly quiet lately and I have fifteen minutes to kill before class, I thought I’d meander on over and share a few random thoughts stewing in my brain.
- Chai lattes are the most inconsistent hot beverage I’ve ever had. At some coffeehouses, I simply adore them. At others? One sip is enough for a journey to the trash can. My love-hate relationship with this drinks grows with each chai purchase. Today’s chai latte at a little joint called Jackson’s Java (University area of Charlotte) was fabulous.
- On a related note, in the few minutes prior to starting this posting, I googled “chai” out of curiosity, and I found a website called “2 B A Snob” — a piece of the internet dedicated to educating folks about becoming a “beverage snob.” This site is terribly interesting with a bundle of facts about coffee, tea, wine and beer. If you’re super bored or care to become a snob of this sort, check it out.
- Why exactly don’t people in the south use blinkers? I am not a mind reader, nor have I ever been. Yet people weave through traffic each morning during my commute assuming I am just that. Thus, I spend many days flipping people off and showing them what blinker-usage looks like. I am not a happy motorist.
- Carrying two cell phones — thanks to the Blackberry issued by my new workplace — is both awesome and irritating. Since my Droid is prone to battery death, it’s great to have a backup phone nearby, especially on those class nights where I’m walking to my car in the dark all alone. However, I frequently forget the ‘Berry exists and thus spend entire weekends not checking it, only to learn Monday morning — when I remember its existence — that I have 14 emails requiring my attention. Oops?
- I miss news. I find myself slacking on current events lately, and I blame that on my departure from the journalism field. This is something that must change. I’m feeling quite disconnected and that should simply not be the case.
- I also miss blogs. A few minutes to write babble-filled sentences is one thing, but searching for the time to read the words of others is proving ridiculously difficult. I’m a slacker, and I again feel out of the loop. This, too, must change.
- What happened to autumn? My favorite season has seemingly taken a break in 2010 and we’ve swiftly moved from 90-degree summer to 65-degree winter. Okay, okay, perhaps that’s not quite “winter” in the traditional sense, but the slow progression into the 70s before I have to rip my jacket from the closet did not occur. I’m a little sad about this and hoping fall makes an appearance as soon as possible. It is, after all, my favorite season.
- Work now requires me to “dress up,” i.e. forego the jeans I was accustomed to wearing daily at the newspaper for wrinkle-free dress pants, blouses, sweaters, etc. On some days, I loathe my ensembles, longing to drive home and crawl into a hoodie. Other days? I look in the mirror and say, “Damn girl, you clean up well.” Today is an example of the latter, and the second such instance this week. This “professional” look just might be growing on me.
Ah, I have more thoughts, many more, but the clock is winding down and my taste buds yearn for a second chai latte before departing for class. Yes, a second! What Mindy wants, Mindy gets, damn it.
‘Til next time!

I miss news, too. Every freaking day. And I cannot wait to get back into it… but this time, on my own terms. I know you’ll figure out a way to work it out for yourself, too.
And I hope that you’re hanging in there, lovely. *hugs*
