Twitter yesterday:
To which a friend responded that his blog was experiencing the same devastating effects. He added, “Does that make us bad bloggers, or good students?” I’m thinking both, at least in my situation.
I hate to consistently blame my new job or this grad-school undertaking for my lack of blogging, or even reading blogs for that matter, but it’s entirely true. I find many things — i.e. the gym, making my own dinner, actually eating lunch — lacking these days as I struggle to find the perfect balance between all the things now comprising each day of my life. Though I technically have more time — thanks to the new work gig — it’s not exactly adjacent hours, which makes those segments fill up quickly with homework or a news article, bill paying or just trying to stay on top of current events.
I’m truly hoping it’s sooner than later that my schedule becomes a bit easier to manage, a little simpler to squeeze all the puzzle pieces together into currently crazy weeks.
You repeatedly hear the phrase “budget your time” throughout high school and undergraduate studies, yet I haven’t heard it once in my one-month as a graduate student. However, I’ve never found those words more poignant than right now, when planning each minute of the day seems almost necessary to adequately stay on top of all these things I’ve decided to juggle at once.
Time to get to the point because, as usual, time is of the essence here (homework sits nearby).
As I attempt being a good student, a successful worker bee and an amazing freelance journalist — oh, and a fairly decent waitress as well — I ask for all the patience in the world while the typically talkative blogger remains a bit silent. The tiny slice of the internet will gradually improve — I’m certainly not disappearing any time soon! — as I find my way through this hectic schedule I’ve created for myself, but clearly it’s going to take a little time — the exact thing I don’t have. So stick around and maybe tolerate a few dozen posts about my insane itinerary as I meddle through this mess of sorts. I may not have very many moments to wipe the dust from bookshelves and countertops in my apartment, but I’ll try my absolute best to find those fleeting seconds here and there to ensure this site stays cobweb-free.

I give you MAJOR credit for holding down two part time jobs, freelance work AND attending grad school all at once so you, simply, must do what you have to do.
good luck with everything!
