Zip your lips like a padlock.

She can’t sing. She’s ugly. She’s annoying. She put a damn dollar-sign in the middle of her name. Oh, and apparently there’s a naked photo of her on the Internet.

“Coming out your mouth with your blah, blah, blah.”

Am I the only one who actually thinks she's gorgeous?

With my fairly poor taste in music*, it’s likely no surprise that I highly disagree with most people’s opinions of Ke$ha and practically adore the ground she walks on. However, that’s not the point I’d like to make today. Rather, let’s highlight the fact that this woman — who, by the way, has had a #1 album and the longest-running number one debut song by a female since 1977 — is absolutely hated among most social circles, just as many of her popular predecessors were. Am I the only one that possibly wonders if much of her fame arises from people’s revulsion?

Do you remember the disdain many held for Madonna when songs such as “Like a Prayer” and “Papa Don’t Preach” hit the airwaves? Or perhaps the hoopla caused by Prince throughout the years? What about the controversy that swirled around artists like Michael Jackson and Britney Spears? Yet their popularity continually prevailed…

…And Ke$ha, like those who came before her, generally garners that loathsomeness from all avenues. From comments on Perez Hilton’s gossip site to negative statements made across Twitter today — though I have seen a few remarks in support of her today as the nudie photo emerged — it’s evident that this one female artist somehow irks people to the core.

I don’t get it.

“So just hush, baby, shut up. Heard enough.”

Not enjoying her tuneage? That I understand. Different strokes for different folks, after all. But to spew such contempt for a single pop singer? Is there something I’m missing?

It’s hard not to wonder if maybe all of this disapproval will keep her in the spotlight just a bit longer than the 15 minutes she might’ve otherwise received. Perhaps it’s all those Ke$ha-haters out in force that allow this 23-year-old** to continue riding the wave of success. Whatever it is, as a fan, I certainly don’t mind.

“Stop talk, talk, talking that blah, blah, blah.”

* So I’ve been told.
** Ugh, musicians younger than me. I’m officially old.

I don’t like her music. She’s not ugly. I prefer the parodies of her songs to the actual songs. They are much funnier. I’m not sure if this is why she is famous or not. Probably, but I know a lot of people younger than me that love her music…
Every one has different tastes. :]

She is smart. She knows that she is not the most talented or the prettiest. She knows that a catchy overproduced song and a lot of media buzz will sell her music.

@Tricia, Good point. And so true. Glad you brought this up!

I actually love “Blah Blah Blah” but maybe that’s because 3oh!3 is in it. LOVE EM! and yes… she is gorge!

I don’t hate her, but I don’t think she’s very talented or deserving of the amount of attention she’s receiving. I’m just a little sick of hearing her songs in every ad on television.

Mindy Reply:

@Alexandra the Tsaritsa, I actually can’t think of a single ad that her song accompanies. Now “Soul Sister” by Train? That one is used for way too many advertisements lately.

@Mindy, “Tik Tok” was used in several movie commercials and it seemed like every time I changed the channel that song was in the background. I was exaggerating a bit in my first post, but I’m not far off.

KeWho? Really? I must be living under a rock because aside from hearing the name and seeing it appear on Perez Hilton’s site while peering over my wife’s shoulder, I couldn’t pick her songs out of a line-up. It’s not like I don’t listen to ANY new music… I mean c’mon, I friggin sing along to Lady Gaga on Rock Band, but I understand how she gained fame.

Here are people I don’t understand: Amy Winehouse. The Kardashians. All of these random stars that pop up that I’ve never heard of before. Where did they come from? And more importantly, when, oh when will they go away?

Mindy Reply:

@Justin (Oats), Ahhh, the Kardashians. That one completely baffles me. Other than being the family of Bruce Jenner — and was he ever really that famous anyway? — I have no clue why they are popular. None.

her songs are catchy but she is annoying, much like miss spears. her songs are ones that you can only hear once and be tired of. her following is mostly younger girls that don’t know any better. ke$ha will be alot like britney, in my opinion. i’m sure ke$h will be shaving her head or something just as drastic, very soon.

Mindy Reply:

@Melissa, But see, this isn’t the same for everyone. I *adore* Britney Spears and Ke$ha. I could listen to both of their stuff repeatedly.

Finally someone else feels the same way. I don’t know why some people think she has ANY talent what so ever, but ugh, she needs to crawl under a rock or just keep her mouth shut.

Maybe, just MAYBE she’ll poof! disappear…I guess that’s wishful thinking

And here we were so close to Ke$ha’s 15-min timeclock reading 00:00. No bother, she’ll be gone soon enough. Hopefully.

And unlike Prince, Madonna, Brit Brit, and the rest Ke$ha has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. She can’t sing, she can’t dance, she’s not talented (unless you count charisma as a talent), and she’s not easy on the eyes. I’m still questioning the tastes of 13 year old girls for thinking “Tik Tok” was worth their $1.29 on iTunes. People not liking “Papa Don’t Preach” and “Like A Prayer” because they’re controversial is one thing, people not liking “Blah Blah Blah” because it’s garbage is another.

@TOPolk, …I’m 25 and I love Ke$ha. I was singing “Tik Tok” before it was on the radio. And maybe it’s just not your genre. I don’t think it’s garbage whatsoever. I think it’s fun and obviously very poppy. It makes me want to get up and dance, nearly every one of her songs.

I don’t really like her cause she’s weird. I know we’re all weird to a point, but her weirdness bothers me.

Even so, I like her music. It’s catchy and fun. My favorite song of hers in “Blind.” Soooooo gooooood!

I don’t think she’s ugly. I think she looks plain. Like…she could walk down the street in LA with a mini skirt, flip flops and a white tee and pass for any other girl. I must admit, I do play her music on the treadmill at the gym…that’s about it. Her stuff is a little too sexual for me and I want to just clean her up a lil bit.

I can appreciate her music, it’s catchy and has good vibes. While I know she isn’t the most gorgeous or classy chick around, I still find her strangely attractive in a trashy/animalistic kind of way.

…also, I’ve sang “Tik-tok” in all my drunken glory at karaoke night! ^_^;

Mindy Reply:

@OmegaRadium, No way, really? Hahahaha. “Tik Tok” definitely received the biggest response from the audience when I was at karaoke on vacation. Hopefully it happened the same way for your performance, lol.
