Bang, Bang, Bang.

by Mindy on July 29, 2010

Some weeks, the words pour out with the fury of a waterfall. And others, such as this one, there’s a pathetic trickle.

Thus, bullet points of punctuated thoughts:

  • I have posted more this month (15 total, including this one) than I have any other month since I entered the blogosphere in April 2008. Yay, go me!
  • I am still stressing about grad school, though I’m pretty certain I’ve made the decision to attend. This was based on a variety of factors, all of which were more-than-heavily weighed. In the end, I simply cannot turn away from an opportunity that’s practically staring me in the face. If I defer for a year or indefinitely put off my attendance, I’m fairly positive that I’ll never find myself in this same position again. Am I possibly setting myself up for disaster? Most definitely. But I’d rather take a chance than wonder “what if” for the rest of my days. Wish me luck! (::Insert very deep breath here::)
  • With that ridiculously difficult finally decision behind me, I’m in the midst of an all-out search for the perfect laptop … and this task is nearly as stressful. What to choose, what to choose? Despite an immense urge to purchase an Apple, I simply cannot justify the dollar-amount attached to their laptops. The specs I’m hoping for do not line up with the price range I’d like to stay within (under $1,500, including warranty and Microsoft Office needs). Thus, the search continues. If you have any advice or recommendations — I’m looking for an Intel Core i5 or i7, 500GB hard drive, 4GB memory, webcam and 15″+ screen — please let me know!

    * (Check italics below). My nephew, Jaidyn!

  • I need to lose my gut, i.e. my “food baby.” I say this often, yet it never gets done. Ugh, I suck.
  • My GReader has, sadly, become a bit overwhelming lately, and I’ve marked many amazing blogs as read to avoid the inundated feeling forming in my stomach. And so, I’m working on catching up with those postings from the past week in the hopes that I can return to a more mellow subscription list after this weekend. What this really means is: You people post too much! Ha.
  • My parents are going to Scranton next week. I typically don’t miss my hometown, but for some reason, I’m incredibly sad that I don’t get to join them on their venture up north. Sigh. Such is life. I suppose my fairly-nonexistant patience will have to prevail as I await my planned trip – already have my plane ticket! — back home in November for my nephew’s first birthday.*
  • I’m not one for book reviews, so Dear John was a blank slate when I started reading. In the end, I was slightly disappointed. (Only rated it three-out-of-five stars on Goodreads.) I plan to watch the movie soon with hopes that it’s more enjoyable than the book, though I’m highly doubtful. Did anyone else find themselves a bit let down with this one?

Well… This turned out to be a rather melancholy posting overall, didn’t it? Sorry for that, folks. Seems life got the best of me this week, but optimistically we’ll be back to regular programming after a weekend of recharging. I surely need it!

* This bullet point provided an amazing excuse to post an oh-so-adorable photo of my nephew. Not that I needed an excuse … after all, it is my blog … but it’s nice to have one.

I was let down by Dear John too! The movie is next on my Netflix queue. We’ll see… I don’t have high hopes.

Haven’t shopped for laptops in a long while, so can not help there. But instead of spending the $$$ on Office I would suggest looking into using Open Office. It basically has the same types of components, is compatible with Micro$oft Office, & is free (or you can give a donation if you want). I’ve been using it a couple years & like it.

I agree with Joseph, Open Office is a great alternative, and I’ve been using it for over a year. Check it out.

Also, I feel ya on the reader. (Mark all as read is your friend!!!)
